BOOKLICE (PSOCIDS)

Cream or Dusty in colour 1-3mm in length, visible to the naked eye. Some species are winged. Found in damp or humid areas where mould will grow which is their primary food.

BIOLOGY:

Humidity needs to be between 50 to 60% for these insects to thrive. Generally associated with damp books and food packaging who's starch sizing and glues readily support mould growth. Also found in other mould growing areas such as around bath taps, windows, new houses on plastered walls supporting mould growth. They are commonly found on wooden pallets which are damp and become infested with mould. In extreme circumstances insecticides can be applied to eradicate Psocids although lowering and keeping humidity below 50% will kill Psocids.
