HIDE,BONE & LARDER BEETLE (DERMESTES SPP)

There are four main types of Dermestes Beetle, all are a similar shape - 6 to 12 mm in length. The Hide Beetle has a few white scales on the wing cases and is silvery white underneath; the larder beetle has a greyish band with dark spots across the front half of the wing cases.

BIOLOGY:

The Dermestes Beetle will feed on any material of animal origin. A dead mouse or bird in a roof space or void can be a source of infestation. In the kitchen, scraps of meat and cheese are consumed. Occasionally items such as fur coats and museum stuffed animal collections are attacked.
