WOODWORM BEETLE (BRYOBIA PRAETIOSA)
This is a small brown beetle 2.5mm to 6mm usually chocolate brown in colour however lighter and darker individuals are found. The larvae create bore holes and extensive tunnelling timber.
BIOLOGY:
The eggs are laid in cracks in timber and usually hatch in 2-3 weeks. The average life span lasts between 3 - 4 years. Infested timbers are found peppered with the flight holes of Anobium punctatum. The adult beetle can fly well. It has been estimated that 800,000 homes change hands each year, which allows for movement of beetles through infested furniture.
